Insurgents Repelled After Gunfire and Explosions in Mali's Capital Bamako

Gunfire and explosions were reported in several parts of Mali's capital, Bamako, early on Tuesday morning. According to Reuters witnesses and security sources, the attacks targeted a gendarmerie school, a military training camp, a police station, and areas close to the airport. The Malian army confirmed that insurgents attacked the gendarmerie school, but the armed forces repelled the attack. Reports from AFP indicate that the situation in Bamako is now under control. Videos on social media show smoke rising from parts of the city, but it is not yet known who is behind the attacks.
