H5N1 Bird Flu Virus Found in Raw Milk from Raw Farm, LLC
Nov 25, 2024, 07:10 AM
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a warning against consuming a specific batch of raw milk from Raw Farm, LLC, after the H5N1 bird flu virus was detected in a retail sample. The affected products, quart and half-gallon sized milk with an expiration date of November 27, 2024, have been recalled by the producer. The virus was found in milk produced by Raw Farm in Fresno County, which supplies to various retail outlets across the state, including Bay Area stores. Health officials have emphasized that while the human health implications of consuming milk containing the virus are not fully understood, the risk is significant due to the high levels of virus found in milk from infected cows. This comes at a time when the virus has spread to nearly 500 herds in 15 states. Consumers are urged to discard or return the recalled milk products.
