Hong Kong Discovers Dinosaur Fossils for the First Time on Port Island
Oct 23, 2024, 08:03 PM
Hong Kong has discovered dinosaur fossils for the first time. The fossils, found on Port Island, a remote, uninhabited island in the northeastern waters of Hong Kong, date back to the Cretaceous period, approximately 145 to 66 million years ago. This discovery marks the first cooperation project under a new agreement between Hong Kong and mainland China. The fossils are believed to belong to a large-aged dinosaur, possibly a Sauropod, a long-necked dinosaur. The site is part of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. This significant find contributes to the understanding of the region's prehistoric life.
