Over 1,800 Syrians Return Home from Türkiye After Baath Regime's Fall; Total Returnees Exceed 121,000
Dec 14, 2024, 09:11 PM
Following the recent fall of the Baath regime in Syria, a significant number of Syrian refugees are returning to their homeland from Türkiye. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 1,847 Syrians have voluntarily returned since the regime's collapse. In total, over 121,000 Syrians have returned to Syria in the past 11 months, with the cumulative number of returnees since 2016 surpassing 738,000. Between December 6 and December 13, 2024, specifically, 7,621 Syrians made the journey back to their country. Many of these returnees expressed gratitude to Türkiye for hosting them during the prolonged civil conflict that lasted 13 years, which prompted their initial migration.
