Senior Iranian IRGC Commander Killed in Aleppo as Rebels Overrun 10 Areas
Nov 28, 2024, 12:20 PM
Brigadier General Kioumars Pourhashemi, a senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and head of Iranian advisors in Syria, was killed in Aleppo. Iranian and international media report that Pourhashemi died during clashes with Syrian opposition forces in the Aleppo countryside. The attack, reportedly carried out by rebel factions, is said to be part of renewed fighting in northern Syria. Some sources have linked the attackers to Israel, describing them as 'Takfiri terrorist mercenaries' or 'Takfiri' elements. Pourhashemi, also known as Haj Hashem, was a high-ranking figure in the IRGC's operations in Syria, where Iran has been a key ally of the Assad regime. Reports also indicate that Hay’et Tahrir al-Sham and allied forces overran 10 areas under Assad's control during the offensive.
