Newsom Authorizes Up to Five Speed Cameras on Malibu's PCH After Over 60 Deaths
Sep 28, 2024, 12:21 PM
Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a bill authorizing the installation of automated speed cameras on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, following a tragic 2023 incident and the loss of over 60 lives on a single stretch of the iconic roadway. The new law adds Malibu to a short list of California cities testing out speed cameras. It allows the city to install up to five automated speed cameras, particularly in high-risk areas such as school zones, in an effort to curb reckless driving and enhance road safety. "Over 60 lives lost on one stretch of our iconic Pacific Coast Highway is unacceptable—it's a call to action," Newsom stated.
