The Comisión de Puntos Constitucionales of the Cámara de Diputados has approved a measure that enhances the powers of the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana. This approval comes as the Senate received a reform bill aimed at expanding the list of crimes that warrant preventive detention under Article 19 of the Mexican Constitution. In a significant vote, the Cámara de Diputados supported the reform to Article 21, allowing the Secretaría de Seguridad to conduct investigations into criminal activities. The legislative body voted 441 in favor of the initiative, which is designed to strengthen the security apparatus in Mexico.
