Putin Ready to End Three-Year Ukraine War with Trump, Cites Increased Strength and Root Causes
Dec 26, 2024, 08:00 PM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to engage in discussions with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to end the nearly three-year war in Ukraine. During an end-of-year press conference in Moscow, Putin indicated his willingness to make compromises to resolve the conflict, despite not having spoken to Trump for over four years and having no immediate plans for a meeting. Putin emphasized Russia's increased strength and sovereignty, and stressed the importance of dialogue and compromise in achieving peace. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia is open to consultations with the Trump administration regarding Ukraine, but emphasized the need for the U.S. to consider the root causes of the conflict. Lavrov also rejected a ceasefire proposal, arguing that it would only allow Ukraine to regroup and rearm with Western support.
