Russia Promises Retaliation for Ukraine's ATACMS Missile Attack on Taganrog
Dec 12, 2024, 11:27 AM
The Kremlin has announced that Russia will respond to a recent Ukrainian missile attack on Russian territory. Ukraine reportedly used six US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike a military airfield in Taganrog, in the Rostov region, an action that has escalated tensions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia's response would be at a time and in a manner deemed appropriate. This follows previous threats by President Vladimir Putin to use an experimental hypersonic missile, known as 'Oreshnik', in retaliation for similar attacks. A US official has indicated that another such missile strike could occur in the coming days, although they do not view the Oreshnik weapon as a game-changer in the conflict. The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that the attack will not go unanswered, hinting at potential retaliatory measures.
