Netanyahu Admits Hezbollah Pager Attacks; Israel Eliminates Hariri Assassin Ayyash in Syria
Nov 10, 2024, 03:10 PM
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly acknowledged for the first time his responsibility for a covert operation involving pager and walkie-talkie attacks against Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon. This admission came during a government meeting where Netanyahu revealed that some senior security officials and members of the political leadership had opposed the operation. Concurrently, reports have emerged suggesting that Israel has eliminated Salim Ayyash, a Hezbollah leader accused of orchestrating the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Ayyash, who had a $10 million reward on his head by the US, was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike near the Syrian town of Qusayr. He was sentenced in absentia to five life sentences for his involvement in Hariri's assassination.
