China Sends 35-Ton Aid and $1 Million, India Contributes $500,000 to Quake-Hit Vanuatu

China has sent emergency relief supplies and a team of four engineering experts to Vanuatu in response to a devastating 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck near the country's coast on December 17, 2024. The 35-ton relief supplies, which include tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purifiers, and medical equipment, were dispatched from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport and arrived in Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila. This marks the first instance of China sending an emergency post-disaster assessment team to a Pacific island country. Additionally, China has provided 1 million U.S. dollars in emergency assistance to support Vanuatu's disaster response and reconstruction efforts. Meanwhile, India has also announced immediate relief assistance of $500,000 to aid Vanuatu's relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts following the earthquake.
