Starmer and Macron Plan Last-Ditch Bid to Bolster Ukraine Ahead of Trump Presidency
Nov 11, 2024, 08:52 AM
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer attended Armistice Day commemorations in Paris, becoming the first UK leader to do so since Winston Churchill in 1944. At the personal invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Starmer joined ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe, where they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, marking the 106th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Following the commemorations, Starmer and Macron held talks focused on European solidarity and defense in light of Donald Trump's recent election victory in the United States. The leaders discussed mounting a last-ditch attempt to thwart Trump's efforts to scale back US support for Ukraine, including convincing current US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russia before the new administration takes office.
