Swiss Snowboard Cross Olympian Sophie Hediger Dies in Avalanche at 26

Swiss snowboard cross racer Sophie Hediger, who competed at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, has died in an avalanche in Arosa, in the canton of Graubünden, eastern Switzerland. The 26-year-old Zurich native was caught in the avalanche on Monday while skiing off-piste. The Swiss Ski Federation announced her death on Tuesday. Hediger had recently celebrated her 26th birthday on December 14 and was striving to win a medal at the upcoming home World Championships in March.
