The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have significantly escalated their military operations in Syria, claiming to have destroyed over 90% of Syria's surface-to-air missile systems. This destruction occurred during a series of airstrikes conducted from December 8 to 10, where Israel reportedly dropped 1,800 bombs on more than 500 targets. The IDF has stated that this capability allows them to operate more freely in Syrian airspace, effectively using Syria as a base for potential strikes against Iran. Following these developments, Israeli airstrikes continued with over 60 raids reported within a few hours on December 14, targeting military sites in Damascus, Daraa, and Suwayda. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that Israel has conducted approximately 420 airstrikes since the fall of the Assad regime, with recent attacks focusing on military installations and weapons depots across various regions in Syria, including Ain Mneen and near the Sednaya prison.
