Sudanese Army Recaptures Strategic City of Wad Madani in Al-Jazirah State From RSF
Jan 11, 2025, 12:58 PM
The Sudanese army, along with allied forces, has recaptured the strategic city of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazirah state, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. The army entered the city after over a year of RSF control, marking a significant advance in the ongoing conflict. The military operation involved intense fighting, with the army pushing out RSF fighters and working to clear remaining rebel pockets within the city. The army's forces reportedly stormed the city's eastern entrance and were seen on the western side of Hantoub Bridge, which had been under RSF control since December 2023. Celebrations erupted across Sudan and in Sudanese communities abroad following the army's announcement of the city's recapture. The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has led to widespread displacement and humanitarian crises across the country.
