Brooklyn Man Arrested in Illegal Betting Scheme Involving Banned NBA's Jontay Porter
Jun 4, 2024, 10:34 PM
A Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with an illegal sports betting scheme involving former NBA player Jontay Porter. The scheme allegedly involved Porter placing prop bets on himself and throwing games to clear significant gambling debts. Porter, who was banned from the NBA due to the scandal, reportedly warned co-conspirators in a group chat that they "might just get hit with a rico." Federal prosecutors allege that Porter had racked up large gambling debts earlier this year. The Brooklyn man was apprehended at JFK Airport with a one-way ticket to Australia, $12,000 in cash, and two cashier checks worth $80,000.
