Study Finds Higher Risk of Early-Onset Dementia Among 9/11 Responders
Jun 12, 2024, 03:44 PM
A new study has found a significant increase in early-onset dementia among 9/11 first responders compared to the general population. The research indicates that responders exposed to high levels of particulate matter and severe debris at the World Trade Center site have a much higher incidence of early-onset dementia. The incidence rate among the study group is nearly 40 times higher than the general rate of 1.2 cases per 1,000 people aged 30 to 64. This finding underscores the long-term health impacts of exposure to hazardous conditions during disasters and highlights the higher risk of early dementia for many responders.
