A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, on 17.08.2024, with varying reports on its magnitude. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a 7.2 magnitude quake occurring 107 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 51 km.
