Delhi Mayor Orders Action Against Basement Coaching Centres After Deaths of Three Students
Jul 28, 2024, 05:23 AM
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take strict action against all coaching centres operating from basements in violation of building bye-laws. This directive follows the tragic incident in Old Rajinder Nagar on July 28, where three civil services aspirants died after a coaching centre basement flooded due to heavy rain. Oberoi has called for an immediate enquiry to identify any MCD officers responsible for the tragedy and ensure the strongest possible action against them if found guilty. The Mayor emphasized the need to prevent such incidents by enforcing regulations on commercial activities in basements across Delhi. An NDRF team was already at the scene when Oberoi arrived.
