Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29 at the age of 100, has arrived in Washington, D.C., where he will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda until Thursday morning. Carter's casket was transported from the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, Georgia, to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Tuesday, January 7. A horse-drawn caisson carried his casket along Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol, where he was honored with a military tribute. The public can pay their respects in person as Carter lies in state from 7 p.m. on Tuesday through 7 a.m. on Thursday. On Thursday, a state funeral will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, where President Joe Biden will deliver a eulogy.
