San Diego Zoo to Welcome Pandas Yun Chuan and Xin Bao Under 10-Year China Conservation Deal
Apr 29, 2024, 11:05 AM
The San Diego Zoo is set to receive two giant pandas, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, from China as part of a renewed 10-year conservation agreement aimed at protecting these endangered species. This initiative, dubbed 'Panda Diplomacy,' is facilitated by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). Dr. Megan Owen, vice president of Conservation Science at the San Diego Zoo, highlighted the significance of this cooperation in international wildlife conservation efforts and strengthening diplomatic ties between the U.S. and China. The pandas are expected to arrive this summer, resuming the practice of panda loans to U.S. zoos, which had been paused as previous pandas were returned to China.
