Suicide Bombing Near Karachi Airport Kills Two Chinese Engineers, Injures Ten; BLA Claims Responsibility
Oct 7, 2024, 02:55 AM
A suicide car bombing near Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night around 11 p.m. targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers and investors from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company, killing at least two Chinese nationals and injuring at least ten people, including a Chinese national and several Pakistani police and Rangers personnel. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), through its Majeed Brigade, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that a member carried out the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attack on the convoy as it was exiting the airport. The Chinese embassy in Pakistan confirmed the deaths and condemned the terrorist attack, urging Pakistani authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the incident and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice. The BLA has consistently targeted Chinese nationals linked to projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) since 2018.
