Delhi LG Sanctions Prosecution of Arundhati Roy Under UAPA and Sedition
Jun 14, 2024, 01:39 PM
The Delhi Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, has sanctioned the prosecution of author Arundhati Roy and former Professor of International Law at the Central University of Kashmir, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sedition for their alleged 'provocative' speeches made in 2010. The speeches, which allegedly advocated 'Azadi for Kashmir,' were delivered at a conference and have been deemed provocative. The FIR in the matter was registered following a complaint by Sushil Pandit on October 28, 2010. The sanction for prosecution comes after a prolonged period of legal deliberation.
