President Lula, 79, Has Successful Artery Embolization After Brain Hemorrhage
Dec 12, 2024, 11:45 AM
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, underwent a second surgical procedure today, an embolization of the meningeal artery, to minimize the risk of future bleeding after his emergency brain surgery earlier this week. The operation at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo lasted less than an hour and was considered successful by his personal doctor, Roberto Kalil Filho, who stated, "The procedure was a success. The president is awake and conversing." Lula remains in intensive care for monitoring. He initially suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a domestic accident on October 19. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin is presiding over official duties, including leading the Economic and Social Development Council meeting during Lula's recovery.
