Greater Manchester Police Drop Investigation into Angela Rayner's Tax Affairs and Council House Row
May 28, 2024, 04:43 PM
Greater Manchester Police have dropped their investigation into Labour Deputy Leader Angela Rayner's tax affairs and council house row, concluding that the allegations fall outside their remit. The investigation centered around whether Rayner owed tax on a house she sold in 2015. Both Stockport Council and HMRC have also decided to take no further action. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer expressed his support, stating he never doubted Rayner's innocence. Rayner welcomed the conclusion, accusing the Conservative Party of using smear tactics during election campaigns. The Conservative Party Deputy Chairman James Daly had made the initial complaint, but refused to specify the allegations. Rayner has been vindicated and cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.
