Eight U.S. Newspapers Sue Microsoft, OpenAI in Southern District of NY Over AI Copyright
Apr 30, 2024, 06:32 PM
Eight major U.S. newspapers owned by Alden Global Capital, including the New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Denver Post, Sun Sentinel, Mercury News, and Orlando Sentinel, have filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI in the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, accuses the tech giants of using millions of copyrighted articles without permission to train their generative artificial intelligence products, such as Microsoft's Copilot and OpenAI's ChatGPT. This legal action follows a similar case filed by the New York Times against both companies, highlighting a growing concern among publishers over the use of their content in AI training without compensation.
