After 34 Years, New Evidence May Free Menendez Brothers as DA Reviews Case
Oct 15, 2024, 03:46 PM
After 34 years in custody, the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, convicted in the 1990s for the murder of their parents, are potentially closer to release as new evidence emerges supporting their claims of abuse. A newly discovered letter and allegations have prompted the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office to review the case and consider resentencing. District Attorney George Gascón has organized a press conference on Wednesday, personally inviting family members of the brothers. Their defense attorney, Mark Geragos, and ABC News Legal Contributor Brian Buckmire have expressed that the brothers have a "strong case" for resentencing. The brothers are reportedly "cautiously optimistic" about the prosecutor's review. Family members and nearly two dozen relatives are set to gather in Los Angeles to push for their release.
