Los Angeles County Confirms H5 Avian Flu in Cats from Raw Farm, LLC's Recalled Raw Milk, No Human Cases
Dec 21, 2024, 02:06 PM
Public health officials in Los Angeles County have confirmed two cases of H5 avian flu in cats that died after consuming recalled raw milk from Raw Farm, LLC. The cats exhibited symptoms including loss of appetite, fever, and neurologic signs before their deaths. Additionally, three other possible cases of bird flu in cats are under investigation, although these cats had no known exposure to raw milk. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has advised residents to avoid consuming raw milk and to not feed it to their pets, emphasizing the risks associated with raw dairy products. No human cases linked to these feline infections have been reported. The cats initially tested positive for Influenza A, which is rare in cats.
