Sevilla's Kike Salas Detained Over Match-Fixing, 10 Yellow Cards, €10,000 Profits

Kike Salas, a 22-year-old defender for Sevilla FC, has been detained by Spanish authorities on allegations of manipulating football matches for illegal betting purposes. The investigation centers on claims that Salas deliberately incurred yellow cards in six matches during the final stretch of the 2023-2024 La Liga season, enabling friends and associates to profit from betting on these predictable outcomes. Reports indicate that Salas received 10 yellow cards in total during the season, with seven occurring in the last nine games, raising suspicions. The alleged scheme reportedly involved approximately 30 bets placed in six establishments in Morón de la Frontera, generating around €10,000 in profits within a month. Two associates of Salas have also been detained as part of the investigation. The Sevilla FC defender, who recently renewed his contract until 2029, has been released on bail but remains under judicial scrutiny. The club has expressed its support for the presumption of innocence while condemning fraudulent behavior in sports. LaLiga has announced its intention to join the case as a private prosecutor.
