IDF Discovers Hezbollah Weapons Near UNIFIL Bases; Over 9,000 Rockets Fired at Israel
Oct 13, 2024, 04:09 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered Hezbollah tunnels, bunkers, and weapons caches situated within meters of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) bases in southern Lebanon. Among the discoveries is a Hezbollah terror tunnel filmed by Israeli journalist Doron Kadosh, located just several dozen meters from a UNIFIL outpost. Additionally, a fortified underground bunker packed with weapons was found less than 500 meters from a UN observation post overlooking Israeli communities in the Galilee. On October 13, Hezbollah launched a massive rocket bombardment on northern Israel, including Haifa and Akko. Since October 8, 2023, Hezbollah has reportedly fired over 9,000 rockets and UAVs into Israel. Israeli officials are criticizing UNIFIL, which has been present for 18 years, for failing to enforce UN Resolution 1701—mandating the disarmament of Hezbollah and prohibiting its operations south of the Litani River. There are concerns that UNIFIL's refusal to evacuate is effectively making its personnel human shields for Hezbollah.
