A 22-year-old man accused of a hate crime shooting targeting a Jewish man and later engaging in a shootout with Chicago police officers and paramedics has died in custody. The suspect, identified as Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Cook County Jail's health center on Saturday afternoon. The Cook County Sheriff's Office confirmed his death on Sunday, which is being investigated as a suicide by hanging. Abdallahi, an illegal immigrant, had been charged with shooting an Orthodox Jewish man on his way to synagogue and subsequently firing on responding police and paramedics. The incident had occurred five weeks prior to his death.
