Oct 5, 2024, 11:03 PM
A man attempted to self-immolate in front of the White House during a pro-Palestine protest on October 5, 2024. The individual, identified as journalist Samuel Mena, poured fuel on himself and set his left arm on fire. The incident occurred near 16th Street and I Street NW, outside Saint John's Church and Freedom Plaza. Protesters and police quickly intervened, extinguishing the flames and preventing further injury. Mena, who suffered superficial burns to his arm, was taken to the hospital. He reportedly screamed about 'misinformation' and claimed to work for CBS. The protest was part of a larger 'National Day of Action' in support of Palestine.
