IDF Orders Evacuations in Beirut and Tyre, Including Key Streets and Port Areas, Ahead of Hezbollah Strikes
Oct 23, 2024, 05:22 AM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have issued urgent evacuation orders to residents in Beirut's southern suburbs and the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, including the small port and boat ramp area near the Al-Nasser Mosque, ahead of planned military operations targeting Hezbollah facilities. On Tuesday evening, IDF Arabic spokesperson Colonel Avichay Adraee announced that residents near Hezbollah sites in the Dahiya district of Beirut should move at least 500 meters away for their safety. Similarly, on Wednesday morning, the IDF called on residents of specific neighborhoods in Tyre—including Al-Hiram, Jaafar Sharaf Al-Din, Abu Deeb, and Al-Athar streets—to evacuate immediately, advising them to move north of the Litani River. The IDF stated that Hezbollah's activities necessitate action in these areas but emphasized that they have no intention of harming civilians. Civil defense authorities in Tyre are assisting with the evacuation, as the city, a densely populated area housing many displaced Lebanese refugees, prepares for potential airstrikes.
