EC Directs Jharkhand BJP to Remove Malicious Video, Cites Poll Code Breach
Nov 17, 2024, 03:40 PM
The Election Commission has directed the Jharkhand BJP to remove a misleading and malicious video from its social media platforms after complaints from the Indian National Congress (INC) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The video allegedly tarnished the image of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the state. Following the complaints, the Jharkhand police registered two FIRs against operators of social media accounts accused of running campaigns to malign the image of the Chief Minister and the state. Additionally, the Jharkhand police have written to Meta, alleging that the BJP used shadow accounts on Facebook and Instagram to damage Soren's reputation. The Election Commission also cited a breach of the poll code.
