Australia Drops Legal Case Against X Over Wakeley Stabbing Videos, X Declares Free Speech Victory
Jun 5, 2024, 06:17 AM
Australia's eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant has decided to drop the legal case against Elon Musk-owned social media platform X. The case was initially aimed at forcing X to remove videos of the Wakeley terrorist stabbing, which involved the stabbing of an Assyrian church bishop in Sydney. The decision follows a setback in the Federal Court last month. The eSafety Commission will now test the validity of its powers through the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. X has declared this a victory for free speech. The legal action was also related to violent posts about the Wakeley church attack.
