VisitNvidia Boosts China Workforce for Autonomous Driving Amid Antitrust Probe
Dec 12, 2024, 11:16 AM
Nvidia Corp. has significantly expanded its operations in China, hiring hundreds of new staff this year to bolster its research capabilities and focus on autonomous driving technologies. The company's workforce in China is expected to grow to about 4,000 employees by the end of 2024, up from nearly 3,000 at the beginning of the year. This expansion includes adding approximately 200 researchers in Beijing to enhance its self-driving car research team. Nvidia's commitment to China comes despite U.S. trade restrictions that limit the sale of its most advanced semiconductors in the region. The company generated $5.4 billion in sales in China during the September quarter. However, Nvidia has refuted rumors that it plans to cut off supplies to China, emphasizing that the country remains a key market for its products and services. This expansion occurs amidst China's growing electric vehicle market and an ongoing antitrust investigation by Chinese regulators into Nvidia's acquisition of Mellanox in 2020.
