Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt End Eight-Year Divorce Saga, Settle Without Spousal Support
Dec 31, 2024, 12:37 PM
Angelina Jolie, 49, and Brad Pitt, 61, have reached a divorce settlement, ending one of the longest and most contentious divorces in Hollywood history. The settlement was finalized after eight years of legal battles, with both parties signing off on a default declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The agreement covers their marital and property rights, and they have waived any future spousal financial support. The settlement was first reported by People magazine. Jolie's attorney, James Simon, stated that Jolie is exhausted but relieved that this part of the process is over. The couple, who were married for two years after dating for a decade, have six children together. During the divorce fight, four of their children became adults, negating the need for a custody agreement for them. The only minors that remain are 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. In June, one of their daughters, then known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, successfully petitioned to remove Pitt's name from hers. The divorce was initiated by Jolie in 2016 following an alleged incident of physical abuse by Pitt towards her and their children on a private jet flight from Europe. Despite investigations by the FBI and child services, no criminal charges were filed against Pitt. The couple's use of a private judge has kept many details of the divorce under wraps. Pitt has acknowledged having a drinking problem at the time of the incident but has since become sober and is attending therapy. The divorce settlement does not resolve all legal issues between them, as a separate lawsuit regarding their French winery, Chateau Miraval, remains ongoing.
