Secret Service and DHS Sued by America First Legal Over Trump Assassination Attempts
Sep 20, 2024, 04:48 PM
The U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are facing lawsuits from America First Legal for refusing to release documents related to the first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The attempt occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Secret Service acting Director Ronald L. Rowe Jr. held a news briefing to provide updates on the investigation. Additionally, the House unanimously passed a bipartisan bill requiring the Secret Service to provide the same level of protection to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as is given to President Biden. The bill, introduced by Representatives Mike Lawler and Ritchie Torres, aims to enhance security measures for major Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates. A whistleblower report released by Senator Josh Hawley also sheds light on the incident, revealing that the Secret Service had planned to cover the rooftop where the gunman shot at Trump. The update comes amid a second attempt on Trump's life.
