Climate Activists Spray '1.5 Is Dead!' on Charles Darwin's Grave at London's Westminster Abbey
Jan 13, 2025, 12:51 PM
Two Just Stop Oil activists defaced Charles Darwin's grave inside Westminster Abbey in London on Monday, protesting against climate change by spray-painting '1.5 is dead!' on the white marble gravestone. The action follows confirmation that last year was the first to breach the key global warming threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius. The activists, identified as Alyson Lee, 66, and Di Bligh, 77, carried out the protest around 9:30 am, demanding that the UK government work with others to phase out the extraction and burning of fossil fuels by 2030. They were arrested by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of causing criminal damage with what is believed to be powdered paint.
