West Bengal 9-Year-Old's Rape and Murder Sparks Outrage, High Court Orders Second Autopsy at AIIMS Kalyani, POCSO Charges
Oct 6, 2024, 04:09 AM
A tragic incident has occurred in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, where a 9-year-old Class 4 girl was allegedly raped and murdered on her way back home from tuition. Her body was found on the bank of the River Ganges in Kripakhali village, leading to public outrage and arson at a local police outpost. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders, with BJP leaders criticizing the Mamata Banerjee administration for failing to ensure the safety of women and children. The Calcutta High Court has directed that the autopsy of the victim be conducted at AIIMS Kalyani and has ordered the inclusion of charges under the POCSO Act. The court has also mandated a second autopsy. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also intervened, with members visiting the victim's family. Additionally, there are demands for capital punishment for the accused.
