Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot Resigns from AAP, Cites 'Sheeshmahal' Controversy and Party's Drift
Nov 17, 2024, 07:50 AM
Delhi Transport Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kailash Gahlot has resigned from the party and his ministerial positions, citing that the party is no longer fighting for people's rights and has become embroiled in embarrassing controversies such as the 'Sheeshmahal'. In his resignation letter to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot stated that 'political ambitions have overtaken the party's commitment to the people' and that the Yamuna River is 'even more polluted under Kejriwal government'. He also criticized the construction of 'Sheeshmahal', saying it made people believe Kejriwal is not an 'Aam Aadmi'. Gahlot held portfolios including Transport, Administrative Reforms, Information & Technology, Home, and Women & Child Development. The resignation is seen as a significant setback for AAP ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. BJP leaders have welcomed his resignation, claiming it validates their criticisms of the AAP government. AAP spokespersons, including Sanjay Singh and Priyanka Kakkar, have alleged that Gahlot's resignation is part of a conspiracy by the BJP, pointing to pressures from ED and CBI investigations.
