South Korea and the United Kingdom are co-hosting the second global AI Summit in Seoul this week, with a focus on AI safety, innovation, and inclusion. The summit, known as the AI Seoul Summit 2024, has secured commitments from 16 leading AI companies, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI, to adhere to the 'Frontier AI Safety Commitments.' These companies have pledged not to develop or deploy AI models if the risks cannot be sufficiently mitigated. The summit follows an inaugural AI safety meeting held in Britain last year, which drew a diverse crowd of tech luminaries, researchers, and officials. The new safety commitments include measures such as enhancing security, extending safety testing time before major launches, and aligning work on risks among nations.
