VisitOpenAI Newsroom X Account Hacked for Fourth Time in 15 Months, Promoting Fake Token
Sep 23, 2024, 10:31 PM
The official OpenAI Newsroom X account has been hacked, marking the fourth time an OpenAI X account has been compromised in the past 15 months. The hacked account is promoting a fake cryptocurrency token, $OPENAI, which is a scam. Notably, the first line of the announcement misspells the token handle ($OPEANAI vs $OPENAI). Users are advised not to click on any links or interact with the account. This incident follows closely after the hacking of OpenAI researcher Jason Wei's account just two days ago. There are increasing calls for OpenAI to implement stronger security measures, such as two-factor authentication (2FA), to prevent further breaches. The hacked account had posted 12 times before being compromised.
