CACI International Ordered to Pay $42M to Abu Ghraib Torture Survivors
Nov 12, 2024, 09:27 PM
A federal jury in Virginia has ordered CACI International, a Virginia-based defense contractor, to pay $42 million in damages to three Iraqi men who were tortured at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq between 2003 and 2004. The jury found CACI responsible for contributing to the detainees' torture and mistreatment, which included beatings, sexual abuse, forced nudity, and other forms of cruel treatment. This landmark ruling marks the first time a private civilian contractor has been held accountable for the abuses at the notorious Iraqi prison.
