VisitAt Least 65 Pilot Whales Die in Orkney Mass Stranding of 77 Whales
Jul 11, 2024, 04:33 PM
At least 65 long-finned pilot whales have died in one of the largest mass strandings in Britain in recent times. The tragic event occurred on Sanday, an island off the north coast of Scotland, in Orkney, where a total of 77 whales were found stranded on Tresness Beach. The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) reported that only 12 whales were still alive when they were discovered on Thursday, but they were unlikely to survive. This incident is described as the biggest mass stranding in decades by the rescue charity.
