US Nears Bilateral Security Pact with Ukraine Amid Tense Relations, Signing Expected at G7 Summit
May 30, 2024, 02:53 PM
The United States is close to signing a new bilateral security pact with Ukraine, aiming to assuage Kyiv after tense relations that some officials say have hit their lowest ebb since Russia’s full-scale invasion. The agreement, reported by the Financial Times, would be the most significant in a series of deals Kyiv has struck with NATO countries. The pact includes commitments on long-term support, such as military training, intelligence sharing, and economic assistance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Joe Biden are expected to sign the agreement on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy next month in June.
