VisitFAA Investigates Counterfeit Titanium in Boeing and Airbus Jets, Boeing Stock Falls 1.2%
Jun 14, 2024, 04:21 PM
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the use of counterfeit titanium in some recently manufactured Boeing and Airbus jets. The titanium, which was purchased from a little-known Chinese company, was sold with falsified documents. The FAA is assessing the safety implications of the counterfeit parts, which have been found to contain small holes from corrosion. Boeing and Airbus have declined to specify the number of planes affected, including models such as the 737 Max, 787, and A220. The investigation has impacted Boeing's stock, which fell by 1.2%. Spirit AeroSystems has confirmed the quarantine of suspect titanium parts.
