Government Enacts Public Examinations Act, 2024, to Combat Cheating
Jun 22, 2024, 12:58 AM
The central government has notified the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, amid ongoing concerns over alleged malpractices in NEET and UGC-NET exams. The Act, which came into effect on June 21, aims to prevent unfair means in public examinations and common entrance tests held across the country. It includes provisions for up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹1 crore for malpractices and cheating in government recruitment exams. The legislation, also known as the anti-paper leak law, applies to examinations for central recruitment and entrance into central educational institutions. A gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Personnel.
