NHTSA Probes Tesla FSD in 2.4 Million Vehicles After Four Crashes, Including Fatality
Oct 18, 2024, 01:29 PM
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary evaluation into approximately 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, following reports of four crashes in reduced roadway visibility conditions, such as fog, sun glare, and airborne dust. One of the incidents resulted in a fatality when a Tesla vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian. The investigation covers Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck vehicles. The NHTSA aims to assess whether Tesla's FSD system is defective and how it detects and responds to decreased visibility conditions.
