Northern Lights Visible Across Wide Swath of U.S. Including D.C., NYC, Boston, and South Carolina
Oct 11, 2024, 12:20 AM
On the night of October 10, 2024, the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, were visible across a wide swath of the United States, reaching as far south as Washington D.C., New York City, and even South Carolina. Reports of the stunning natural phenomenon came from numerous locations including Cleveland, Norfolk, Rockville, Bethesda, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Nazareth, Northern Virginia, Annapolis, Connecticut, Lynn, Cockeysville, Myrtle Beach, Boston, the Bronx, Soundview, and Carolina Forest. The lights were faint in some areas due to light pollution but were still visible to the naked eye. This rare event was attributed to a severe geomagnetic storm, providing a spectacular display for many who had never seen the Northern Lights before.
